Arthritis

Arthritis is an inflammatory condition that affects your joints, causing stiffness, pain, and discomfort. When you have arthritis, cartilage and supportive tissues that protect your joints start to break down. Without this cushioning tissue, your bones begin to rub against one another. This condition is most common in the elderly, but can also affect younger people. In some cases, children as young as six months old can develop Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, causing pain and interfering with your child’s growth. At Montes Medical Group, we aim to provide our patients with the highest level of care, regardless of age or symptom severity. If you believe you may have psoriatic or rheumatoid arthritis symptoms, get in touch today.

Causes of Arthritis

Most forms of this disease are brought on by a reduction in the normal amount of cartilage tissue between the joints. Cartilage protects the joints by absorbing the pressure and shock created when you move and put stress on them. If the production of cartilage declines, it can cause severe stiffness, pain, and inflammation. Many of the forms of arthritis, because they are rheumatic diseases, can cause symptoms affecting various organs of the body that do not directly involve the joints.

Symptoms of Arthritis

Arthritis is known for causing joint pain and can limit your range of motion. When arthritis develops in your knees, ankles, or hands, it can make it difficult for you to bend them. This can lead to difficulty in walking or participating in tasks you used to enjoy. Some of the most common symptoms of this illness include:

  • Limited range of motion
  • Swelling or tenderness
  • Warmth or redness over the joint
  • Pain that worsens with activity
